Challenge & Support

Different forms and levels of support and guidance are provided, designed to ensure appropriate support for students experiencing challenges, difficulties and having special educational needs at any point in their school career, so as to allow them to develop to their full potential.

Educational support

Differentiation forms the basis of successful teaching and learning. All class teachers closely monitor the development of their pupils. Extra support is offered when despite of the differentiated teaching in class, pupils are experiencing difficulties in accessing specific areas of the curriculum. The support can be related to subject learning areas such as L1, math, discovery of the world, physical education, … or cross curricular competences such as personal development, social development and learning to learn. The support sessions can be organised in or outside the classroom, individually or in a small group, for a short time or a longer period.

We offer different types of support:

  • General support: for pupils with difficulties in a particular aspect of a subject, a need to catch up or help with acquiring effective learning strategies or study skills
  • Moderate support: for pupils with mild learning difficulties or in need of more targeted support and for pupils who have difficulties due to language issues
  • Intensive support A: for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) - learning, emotional, behavioural or physical disabilities
  • Intensive support B: for pupils without special educational needs who are incorporated later into the school and need short term intensive support to access the curriculum (for example intensive language support)

Challenge programme

We also offer an enrichment programme to highly gifted pupils who need to be challenged beside the differentiated teaching and learning in class. The aim of the challenge project is to motivate students and strengthen their study skills.

Care team

The Nursery/Primary care team works together with the school counsellor and looks after the well-being of the pupils. The care team decides on interventions and measures to support pupils who are at risk or pupils in need of personal or social-emotional support. The care team works in close cooperation with parents and teachers and supports where needed.

We are KiVa

At ESMol we work with the KiVa-programme to promote a positive school climate and to prevent and tackle bullying. Reducing bullying is an important goal but the program has numerous beneficial effects on the general well-being, school liking and academic motivation of all children.

The KiVa curriculum consist of Kiva lessons directed at all pupils to prevent bullying. The KiVa team intervenes with indicated actions when a case of bullying emerges and guides and supports all pupils involved to find positive solutions.
